Hi there! I’m Cam, and I’ll be writing for you here. I want to start with a confession: writing this introduction has been harder than I expected. Not because I dont know what to say, but because there's so much I'd
love to share, and I'm mindful to not overwhelm you all in a first hello. So, let's keep it simple.

I'm a Specialist Wellness Counsellor, registered with ASCHP, and based right here in Cape Town. My work centres on trauma. Both the kind that shows up in childhood and the kind that plays out in our relationships in adulthood. I spend a lot of my time thinking about attachment, communication, and the tricky, often uncomfortable work of learning to advocate for yourself and hold boundaries. A lot of my approach draws on DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) and PCT (Person-Centred Therapy). It's less about me & "fixing" anything and more about helping you reconnect with your own voice. My role is simply to create a space where you feel safe enough to be fully yourself by learning practical, skills-based tools that help people manage big emotions and difficult relationships without losing themselves in the process.
Before counselling, I studied Communications and Psychology, then specialised further in Developmental Psychology. Looking back, it makes sense… I've always been drawn to understanding how we become who we are, and how the people and experiences around us shape that.
So why blogging?
Because so much of what happens in a counselling room doesn't need to stay there. The patterns we untangle, the language we use to describe hard feelings, the small shifts that make a big difference — these are things I think everyone can benefit from, not just people sitting across from me in session. This space is where I'll be sharing those ideas: practical, honest, and grounded in real psychological theory, but without the jargon.
I'll be writing about the things I care about most— trauma and healing, how our early
relationships shape our adult ones, and the everyday skill of communicating clearly and setting boundaries without guilt. You can also expect posts on the Gen Z experience, neurodivergent experiences, learning and behaviour support, and what it really means to create inclusive, safe care for everyone who walks through the door. I'm genuinely glad to be joining The Authentic Project's team of writers, and I'm looking forward to sharing this space with you. Thanks for reading — I hope you'll stick around.
